Sheet Metal Bending

We offer sheet metal bending. Our advanced bending solutions with 3D control can bend complex items up to 4 meters in length.

What is sheet metal bending?

Sheet metal bending is an effective way of creating things with different shapes, used for different things. It involves using forces to change the shape of your sheet. The outside force used, alters only the outside features of the sheet. However, the length and thickness of the sheet remain the same. The flexibleness of the sheet metal further allows it to undergo various shaping processes. Sheet metal bending is an important part of the fabrication process and at Fab-Tech Telford we are the experts and specialists in this field.

Here at Fab-tech Telford we use state of the art equipment: using AMADA’s HFE 3i press breaks gives us greater control when bending all ranges of materials. Bending programmes and sequences are optimised by our CAM Programming system to ensure quick process times and turnaround.

Fab-Tech Telford are the experts in sheet metal bending and if you would like to know more about how we can help you and your business, then get in touch with one of the team on 01952 899144 – alternatively fill in the online contact form and one of the team will get back to you.

Sheet Metal Punching

Sheet metal punching is the method of high-speed punching of materials with integrated sheet feeder and automatic tool changes for high volume parts.
Sheet metal punching is one of the most cost-effective solutions when it comes to sheet metal fabrication.
At Fab-Tech Telford we offer a flexible and efficient sheet metal punching service that can be adapted to your project requirements and specifications.

Punching is a process in which tools and dies are used to punch holes in sheet metal. The punch makes a hole through the metal while dies (which are on the opposite side of the metal) guarantee a proper and accurate punch. These can be made to meet very specific sheet metal designs and shapes.
Sheet metal punching has become one of the most used in the fabrication industry due to its adaptiveness. The punching technique can be used on almost any type of metal from aluminium to iron, to stainless steel, and more. It’s also quite easy for a fabricator to combine dies they already must fit a specific mould. This allows the fabricator to meet the exact needs of the project at hand without costing too much and charging the customer more money than necessary for the project.

Sheet metal punching comes as an advantage compared to just pure laser cutting as you can make multiple moulding in the same set. Making your work quicker and more efficient.

What is the ISO 9001 accreditation?

The ISO 9001 accreditation is delivered by the International Organisation of Standards, this certificate is the world’s most popular ISO standard and is applicable to any business that meets the criteria of standards.

Why is the ISO 9001 accreditation so popular?

Quite simply, the standard has the reputation of being the way that an organisation proves its quality credentials. That’s why ISO 9001 is requested in so many public and private sector tender situations and is so important to become certified, especially in the UK.

The main aspect of any successful business is great quality control. If you want your operation to succeed, your potential consumer base must be confident that the goods or services you offer meet or exceed expected standards. ISO 9001 is a quick and easy way for potential consumers to see if your company has put the time and effort into making sure your product or service is the best it can possibly be.

What are the benefits of this certification?

The ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System specifies what your organisation needs to do:

  • To provide products and services that consistently meet customers’ needs
  • To enhance customer satisfaction through a process of continual improvement
  • To ensure it conforms with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements

Becoming certified in ISO 9001:2015 can provide many benefits, both for your organisation and your customers.

What is MIG welding?

Fabrication and welding techniques are a big part of our services here at Fab-Tech Telford and we are often called upon to assemble different machined parts for our customers.

During this fabrication process, we use two different welding techniques called TIG (tungsten inert gas) and MIG (metal inert gas) – in this article we look at the MIG (metal insert gas) side of the process.

Understanding Metal Insert Gas welding

So, what is Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding? This is a process that creates joints by feeding the electrode into molten metal, thus creating an arc between them. The two bases are melted together with this action; meanwhile, gas shielding protects your weld pool from airborne contaminants like dirt or rust particles entering through ventilation systems.

MIG welding is a great way to weld metal with the help of electricity. A wire electrode consists largely in its composition, which can be either cored or solid depending on what you’re looking for as far as quality goes – it all depends on how much control over the melting and cool down time your welder offers.

When the trigger of a MIG welding machine is pulled, an arc forms between this wire electrode and workpiece. The heat from that fusion melts both surfaces while also acting as filler metal for any cracks or gaps in between them – hence why some people call it “wire-welding.”

Shielded gases are essential when welding with MIG because they allow you to protect your workpiece or filler material from reacting in any unwanted ways.

The shield can be supplied through an annular (ring) nozzle that surrounds each joint, which means there’s no need for different types of shields depending upon what kind of metal we will be working with; this just makes things easier.

Spotlight on: CAM Programming

What is CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) programming?

If you’re visiting this blog then you may already know that CAM programming involves using computer software and machinery to automate the manufacturing process.  It usually works hand in hand with computer aided design to translate drawings and data into detailed instructions to create objects with a laser or cutting tool.

Without the need for manual intervention, having to set up machines and so on, CAM programming is great for producing fast and accurate results.

What is needed for a CAM system to function?

• Software that tells a machine how to make a product by generating toolpaths.
• Machinery that can turn raw material into a finished product.
• Post Processing converts toolpaths into a language machines can understand.

These three components still need to be overseen by human expertise on the factory floor. Bringing together software, machines and processes, CAM processing is something that we are proud to offer as part of our service.

Increasing production speed

CAM reduces waste and energy for enhanced manufacturing and production efficiency. This is achieved via increased production speeds, raw material consistency and more precise tooling accuracy. There is no design too tough for CAM Processing.

Highly sophisticated CAM Processing can follow the most complex patterns, so you can rest assured that if you choose our CAM service, you will be getting a quick supply of intricately uniform and accurate products.

High quality parts & lower costs

Since its inception, CAM has delivered a multitude of improvements to the manufacturing process, including:

  • Improved machine capabilities. CAM systems can take advantage of advanced 5-axis machinery to deliver more sophisticated and higher quality parts.
  • Improved machine efficiency. Today’s CAM software provides high-speed machine tool paths that help us manufacture parts faster than ever.
  • Improved material usage. With additive machinery and CAM systems, we can produce complex geometries with minimal waste, which means lower costs.

The business benefits of CAM Processing

In any industry time is money. This is where CAM Processing can make an impact.

Compared to manually operated machines, CAM generally offers greater speed, accuracy and consistency. As it is predominantly computer controlled – and machines don’t need to take breaks – the job completion time is reduced significantly, enabling customers to get their final products in a much shorter time frame.
